Minister for Social Inclusion Tanya Plibersek said that the week is an important opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced by vulnerable members of the community.

Minister Plibersek said that the Gillard Government was implementing a comprehensive agenda to ensure all Australians felt valued and had the opportunity to participate fully in the community.

“The Government is improving the way it delivers health, welfare and social services. This will help to give disadvantaged Australians the opportunity to participate in their community and contribute to our economy.”

“We are also working to strengthen the not-for-profit sector by reducing red tape so that charities are supported to do what they do best.”

Minister Plibersek said that the government had established the Office for the Not-for-Profit Sector to coordinate reform in the area.

“The office work will to reduce red tape and free up resources so charities are supported to do what they do best – help people.”
