Property heavyweights raise more than $51K for homeless youths

185 property and construction industry professionals turned pedals at the Property Industry Foundation’s Pedal for Homeless Youth event last week, raising more than $51,000 for Queensland’s homeless youth.

Industry players completed a 20-minute sprint on stationary bikes in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall for the charity event, turning kilometres into important funds for the state’s most vulnerable.

Property Industry Foundation QLD State Manager Antoinette Rusby-Perera said the event was a resounding success, with a packed roster of participants putting in their best efforts.

“It was great to see so many teams come down to participate throughout the day, especially for such an important mission,” she said.

“Every night nearly 10,000 young Queenslanders do not have safe places to lay their heads. Their experiences, at their young vulnerable ages, will have lasting effects on the rest of their lives,” said Rusby-Perera.

All funds raised from this year’s Pedal for Homeless Youth are going towards Haven Projects like the Foundation’s two projects in Southeast Queensland which are already underway; Haven House Kingaroy and Haven House Logan.

These two safe and welcoming transitional homes will provide a total of 13 bedrooms for youths, as well as mothers and their children, to rebuild their lives.

Companies who donned their best lycra vying to raise the most funds included, GPT, Suncorp, The Urban Developer, Saunders Havill Group, Colliers, Built QLD, Lendlease, Blight Rayner, QUT Planning Students Association, and Aliro Group.

Despite the tough competition, boutique financial advisory firm Tynan’s Advice came out as top fundraiser, raising an impressive $6,372 toward the cause.

Property Industry Foundation QLD State Manager Antoinette Rusby-Perera said the charity is incredibly grateful towards the event participants and sponsors.

“This is the third year we’ve run the event, and the support keeps getting stronger,” she said.

“The Foundation continues to be committed to giving young people who are homeless, or at risk of being homeless, brighter futures. “
