ACOSS says Budget bypasses most disadvantaged

The Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) has expressed its disappointment that the Federal Budget has bypassed two of the poorest groups in the country and those who will be most affected by the recession – sole parent families and the unemployed.

Awarding transparency

Oxfam Australia has been announced as the winner and World Vision Australia the runner-up of the PricewaterhouseCoopers second annual Transparency Awards – co-sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Centre for Social Impact – which acknowledge the quality and transparency of reporting within the not-for-profit sector.

Telstra gives back to the community

More than 220 clubs, societies and other not-for-profit organisations will share in $150,000 of the Telstra Foundation’s recently announced Community Connection grants, which honour Telstra employees’ involvement and leadership in community organisations by supporting the groups where they volunteer.

Volunteering Unplugged during National Volunteer Week

The Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) has welcomed the Federal Government’s recently announced Compact with Young Australians, under which all unemployed Australians under the age of 25 will have a guaranteed education or training place.

Volunteering Australia has launched an online survey as part of Phase 1 of the review process of its National Standards for Involving Volunteers in Not for Profit Organisations, through which it is inviting feedback.
