Petstock Foundation’s Hometown Heroes initiative to donate $600,000.
Australians called on to support people facing disadvantage in our local communities this September. Across Australia, many communities are struggling, with people sacrificing basic necessities to survive.
Charities report a rise in demand for support with groceries, mental health care, pet care, and food. Many organisations are struggling to keep up with this demand.
To help those experiencing disadvantage in our local communities, the Petstock Foundation will hold its annual Hometown Heroes initiative this September.
With a goal to raise $600,000 for partner charities who work to assist people facing some form of disadvantage, Australians are encouraged to lend their support, and donate at their local Petstock store or online.
Petstock store teams have selected local charities special to them to support throughout the month. 27 charities nationwide will benefit, and 100% of proceeds will be donated to organisations including Pets Of The Homeless (VIC), Lucy’s Project (NSW), Smart Pups – Eli’s Cause (QLD), Safe Pets Safe Families (SA), ACT Pet Crisis Support (ACT), HorsePower (WA), Riding for the Disabled (TAS), and Heart Dogs (NT).
Funds raised will directly benefit communities by allowing charities to provide essential services like vet care for pets, support for people leaving unsafe domestic situations without abandoning their pets, and mental health support through assistance animals.
A recent report shows the wealth gap in Australia is widening, with the highest 10% of households reporting a weekly income six times more than the lowest 20%.
This disparity leads to social issues, poor quality of life, inadequate education, and fewer employment opportunities. The charities supported by Petstock Foundation work tirelessly to help people break the cycle of disadvantage.

“Our mission is to empower a better future for pets and people,” said Petstock Foundation Head Jessica Curtis.
According to Curtis, by highlighting local charities, we strengthen their capacity to support those experiencing disadvantage. Pets are crucial to our wellbeing, and many of our partner charities help people care for their pets, keeping beloved animals with their owners.
“100% of funds raised in September will go to our charity partners, chosen by local Petstock store teams.”
“We encourage Australians to donate, whether by rounding up purchases in-store or donating online. Every contribution is gratefully received by our charity partners,” added Curtis.
Pets Of The Homeless Founder and CEO, Yvonne Hong emphasises that with fewer volunteers, rising costs, and increased demand, their work is often only possible thanks to donations.
“Contributions make a huge difference to those experiencing financial hardship, and we are grateful to the Petstock Foundation for supporting small community charities like ours.”
The Hometown Heroes campaign will run from 27th August to 30th September. Help a Hero this September, and celebrate the work local charity organisations do in creating a better future for pets and people.
