Announcements of leadership change

Philanthropy Australia

After nearly five years, Gina Anderson will be resigning from the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Philanthropy Australia on 30 September 2010.

She will be performing her usual duties until then. Philanthropy Australia is planning for the recruitment of her successor to be conducted by an external body.

Before working with Philanthropy Australia, Anderson was General Manager of Human Resources at St Hilliers, an integrated property development and construction company, and also worked for seven years with the Westpac Banking Corporation.

Australian Council of Social Services

Cassandra Goldie has replaced Clare Martin as CEO of the Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS).

ACOSS President Simon Schrapel said that Goldie’s leadership, public advocacy credentials and her track record in policy and management make her ideally suited to the CEO position.

Goldie’s previous appointment was with the Australian Human Rights Commission, as Director of the Sex and Age Discrimination Unit.

Goldie has also been President of NTCOSS, the Northern Territory body of ACOSS, board member of ACOSS from 2001-2002, and was an ACOSS law and justice policy advisor from 2000-2006.

Clare Martin, who has been CEO for the past two years, has been appointed a Professorial Fellow with The Northern Institute, a new research and development enterprise with Charles Darwin University.

The Foundation for Young Australians

The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) has announced that Jan Owen AM will take the position of CEO in September 2010.

Since 2002, Owen has been the Executive Director of Social Ventures Australia. She has also held positions as Chairperson of the National Youth Council of Australia and President of the Youth Affairs Council of Australia. She founded the CREATE Foundation where she was the inaugural CEO and led the organisation for nine years.

In 2000, Owen received membership to the Order of Australia for service to children and young people.

The FYA said that Owen is recognised as one of the leading pioneers of Australia’s youth sector, and that the appointment is wonderful news for the future of young people in Australia.
