Where do Australia’s top NFP leaders gather?

“Inspiring innovation”, “striving for change”, “sustainable future”, “disruption” – these are all terms that have become a natural inclusion in the vernacular of many business executives. CEO’s have become used to the regular grilling from their Board of Director’s about strategy and vision to ensure the business adapts to change, inspires innovation and reaches for the stars.

But what does all this mean? Do they want a man to be placed on the moon or a simple upgrade to the CRM system? The fact is that innovation is such a broad term with such different meanings to every business – and it changes depending on an organisations mission, objectives and budget.

With NFPs the challenge is even greater, as by definition the business profits are diverted to the cause or to the organisations members and not to its shareholders. So justifying the necessity to spend big on tech or other innovative initiatives becomes even more complex.

On top of that, the NFP sector suffers from substantial beaurocracy and red tape, which presents further obstacles.

John Brogden, the CEO of one of Australia’s most prominent NFPs – the Australian Institute of Company Directors – knows how challenging it is to navigate your way in a large organisation, and how to demonstrate leadership and gain support from your board and members.

This is why John has stepped up to join a line of prestigious leaders at the Third Sector conference and expo to discuss his view on the role of good governance in driving innovation in business.

John will share the stage with one of Australia’s busiest executives, Graham Bradley. Graham is the Non-Executive Chairman of Stockland, Energy Australia, Infrastructure NSW and HSBC to name a few, and was also the Chair of the Business Council of Australia.

David Gonski, Chairman of ANZ, Coca-Cola Amatil and Chancellor of the University of New South Wales will interview Lucy Turnbull, Commissioner for Greater Sydney on the role of industry, government, academia and the community in encouraging and fostering an innovative NFP sector.

Tim Costello, outgoing CEO of World Vision will share the stage with his son Elliot Costello, Founder of YGap to discuss traditional versus new approaches to innovation.

Third Sector’s “Innovation for a Stronger Community” conference brings together the who’s who from industry, government, academia and the community, and includes a special presentation by the NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, Victor Dominello.
