ACMI has received a $650,000 philanthropic grant from Gandel Philanthropy to support education outcomes over the next three years. The support was meant for the redevelopment and expansion of the education facilities at ACMI.
Particularly eyed are funding for museum transforming and reopening in 2020 to cater to regional students through the Victorian Government’s Tech Schools initiative and become a moving image at the heart of Melbourne.
This gift is one of several grants from the Victorian Government together with its $36.6 million investment. Adding that to the contributions from many partners, ACMI is undergoing a major renewal project valued at over $40 million.
“ACMI is one of the leading cultural institutions that is also a hub of learning and education. Most importantly, its emphasis on tech learning, on fostering creativity in students and looking to the future of education and employment, have all been key factors in our family foundation’s decision to support this initiative,” Chairman of Gandel Philanthropy John Gandel AC said.
The museum is likely to double participation to 140,000 students and teachers annually in workshop programs and significantly improve access to learning outcomes. AMIC is meant to use $500,000 of the Gandel Philanthropy Flagship Grant to support the construction and revival of two of their education studios.
Partnerships with Tech Schools focusing on entrepreneurship, game design and emerging technologies has helped strengthen pathways for young people to industry and employment through AMCI. Overall education visitation is predicted to accommodate up to 140,000 students and teachers annually.
With an additional support of $150,000 over the next three years, ACMI’s capacity to deliver state of the art education programs is expected to significantly improve.
“We are very thrilled to be part of this project, helping ACMI to maintain its cutting-edge programming, as well as enabling them to increase their reach and their audience participation,” Gandel Philanthropy Pauline Gandel AC said.
According to AMCI, the Geelong Tech School activity will commence in 2019 and other schools are anticipated to follow.
