The government launches the Future Women Jobs Academy 2025 initiative to boost workforce participation for women over 40.
The Queensland Government has launched the Future Women Jobs Academy 2025, a program designed to empower women over 40 to re-enter the workforce. The initiative offers targeted online training, mentorship, and valuable resources to equip participants with the skills and confidence they need to achieve their career aspirations.
The program, now in its second year, will select up to 250 women to participate in the 2025 cohort. Minister for Women and Women’s Economic Security, Fiona Simpson, emphasised the significance of this investment, stating, “More women in the workforce is good for the Queensland economy. It leads to higher productivity and a more diverse labour market, with all the associated benefits – innovation, better decision-making, and a richer workplace culture.”
Minister Simpson highlighted the pressing need to address the gender pay gap and the financial disparities faced by women. “Women retire with nearly 20% less superannuation than men on average,” she noted. “Furthermore, 30% of women will rely on their partner’s income in retirement. These are significant challenges that require proactive solutions.”
The Queensland Government has committed $20 million over four years to support women returning to the workforce, with the Future Women Jobs Academy being a key component of this initiative. Minister Simpson expressed confidence that by closing the gender pay gap, the government can enrich communities, strengthen the economy, and foster a more equitable environment for all.
Helen McCabe, Founder and Managing Director of Future Women, praised the program’s success, stating, “Since its inception, it has become evident that hundreds of thousands of highly skilled women across the nation are eager to return to paid work. We are proud to offer a program that provides tailored support to meet their specific needs.” McCabe further emphasised that the Jobs Academy will not only empower women but also address critical labour and skills shortages within the Queensland economy.
The Future Women Jobs Academy 2025 offers a valuable opportunity for women over 40 seeking to re-enter the workforce. By providing access to essential skills, mentorship, and valuable resources, the program aims to empower women to achieve their career goals and contribute meaningfully to the Queensland economy.
