In its annual charity event where the Sydney Swans clashed with the GWS Giants, QBE Foundation donated $20,000 to its charity partners as part of its Goals for Good initiative.
The initiative saw the QBE Foundation donate $1,000 for every goal the Swans scored during the game at the SCG, with funds raised to be split between QBE’s charity partners and the Sydney Swans Foundation.
While the Swans were defeated by the GWS Giants, they scored 10 goals during the game, with the QBE Foundation doubling the donation to $20,000 following the game.
Jason Clarke, QBE Foundation Co-Chair, said the initiative is a fun way for QBE to continue to support its charity partners and their work in supporting communities before, during and after tough times.
“Throughout our 35-year long relationship with the Sydney Swans, we’ve often been able to join forces to support the communities and causes closest to us. We’re proud to continue this great work through this year’s QBE Goals for Good initiative,” Clarke said.
The funds raised through QBE Goals for Good on Saturday will go towards QBE’s charity partners such as the Australian Red Cross, Orange Sky, Foodbank Australia and R U OK?, as well as the Sydney Swans Foundation, to help make a positive difference to our local communities.
Clarke said that the match also provided an opportunity to give back to those who work so hard for our communities, with QBE hosting its charity partners and their volunteers and families, and many of QBE’s own employees who go above and beyond to support the work of the QBE Foundation and its charity partners. Volunteers from Orange Sky and The Kids’ Cancer Project were also given the opportunity to do the game’s coin toss and ball run out.
“We were thrilled to invite our charity partners to the clubroom on Saturday to enjoy the game and an afternoon of entertainment, as a small thank-you for the incredible work they do to build strong, sustainable and inclusive communities. QBE truly values the community spirit shown by our charity partners and is proud to support them in their endeavours as we all work together to create positive change.” he said.
Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said the initiative was an outstanding opportunity to come together and celebrate the work of the charities involved.
“QBE Goals for Good is an outstanding initiative that highlights our shared commitment to our communities, and we are proud to have been involved this weekend. On behalf of the club and the Sydney Swans Foundation, I would like to extend my gratitude to QBE for their ongoing support and generosity,” Harley said.
Once distributed the funds raised will bring QBE’s philanthropic contributions to charity partners and community causes in Australia to almost $300,000 this year.
