Good Neighbours Australia (GNAU) proudly joins fellow members accredited with the peak body for Australian non-government organisations, the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), as it pursues the shared vision of ‘acting with compassion and fairness for a just, sustainable and equitable world’.
“As we seek to empower people and transform communities through our Good Neighbours partnership in 49 countries, we look forward to working with ACFID and collaborating with like-minded agencies based in Australia,” said Good Neighbours Australia Executive Director Sylvia Lee.
“For 33 years we’ve been protecting the rights and wellbeing of children around the world while strengthening the families and communities they live in”, said Sylvia Lee.
Having opened its Australian doors in 2018, GNAU’s local programming has focused on reaching people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including refugees and minority communities, in collaboration with government agencies, corporates, philanthropic foundations, community-based organisations and volunteers.
Meanwhile, global efforts from Australia have focused on developing child sponsorship support for our team in Vietnam, while community development projects and humanitarian aid have been delivered through priority partners in Bangladesh, Mozambique, the Philippines, Romania, Ukraine and Vietnam.
ACFID commenced in Australia in 1965. It now has 129 members adhering to the organisation’s Code of Conduct, which enshrines good practice in the sector, guides signatories’ actions, enhances overall outcomes and aims to increase transparency and accountability, enhancing trust with Australian NGOs.
To become accredited with ACFID, GNAU addressed their 9 Quality Principles, 33 Commitments and 92 compliance indicators reflecting stringent requirements for programming effectiveness, fundraising, governance and financial reporting.
ACFID members range from large multi-sectorial NGOs to organisations specialising in specific humanitarian areas.
Through this network, GNAU looks forward to collaborating and broadening its impact on international development and humanitarian action around the globe. That’s what ‘good neighbours’ are for.
