Two new customised community transport vehicles are being launched in the Canterbury-Bankstown area by Bankstown Canterbury Community Transport (BCCT), transforming the lives of senior and disabled residents who use the service.
The two deluxe Toyota Commuters have been modified with additional steps, a wheelchair hoist, grab rails and raised seats to make it easier for clients to enter and exit, and to sit down or stand up.
BCCT drivers have welcomed the latest vehicles, which are both fitted with front and rear dashcams and GPS tracking. New vehicle wraps will help them stand out on the road, making it easier for clients to identify them.
The Toyota Commuters will be used mainly to help older and disabled clients get to medical appointments and other activities.
Notable acts of generosity are behind the new modified deluxe Toyota Commuters, according to Rachel Thompson, CEO of Bankstown Canterbury Community Transport (BCCT).
“We are thankful to the Department of Community and Justice for the Community Building Partnerships Grant, and to a former client who made a bequeath to BCCT – their generous funding allowed us to purchase the vehicles,” Thompson said in a media release.
Community Transport clients will appreciate the benefits that the latest modifications have brought to passengers’ safety and comfort, especially the frail aged and others experiencing physical disabilities.
Residents will be able to spot the colourful new additions on the streets of Canterbury Bankstown easily. The Toyota Commuters will join the BCCT’s fleet of 20 vehicles. Customers who use BCCT’s subsidised services will have access to the comfortable Toyota Commuters when they commence regular community transport trips.
The Toyota Commuters are also available for hire on weekends for other community and sports groups. Residents can find out more about BCCT services via their website or phone 9772 4928.
