PwC consulted with the not-for-profit sector to determine the appetite for introducing the Awards and based on feedback from the sector, adapted and launched the Awards in 2007 in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia. During 2008 this collaboration was extended to also include the Centre for Social Impact.

The awards recognise the quality and transparency of reporting in the not-for-profit (NFP) sector and NFP organisations an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to professional reporting.

Ongoing consultation with the NFP sector has resulted in expansion of the Awards.

There will be two categories for the 2011 Transparency Awards:

  • Generate revenue >$30m
  • Generate revenue >$5m but less than or equal to $30m
  • .

The winner and runner-up in each category will receive $20,000 and $10,000 respectively towards sending members of their organisation on training and development tours.

A Most Improved Award will be presented to the nominee showing the most significant improvement from their prior year submission and an award will also be given to the best first time entrant.

Each participant in the Transparency Awards is eligible to attend the executive course Transparent Reporting for NFPs for free, which is offered by the Centre for Social Impact. The course will be held after the conclusion of the 2011 awards in Sydney and Melbourne.
