ACNC welcomes fundraising reforms that will aid charities

The ACNC welcomes significant reforms that will reduce the red tape burden for charities that fundraise in Victoria.

From today, charities will only need to notify Consumer Affairs Victoria of their intent to fundraise to become a registered fundraiser.

Previously, charities registered with the ACNC were required to submit an application to Consumer Affairs Victoria to become a registered fundraiser.

Additionally, charities that fundraise in Victoria are no longer required to submit an annual return to Consumer Affairs Victoria. Instead, charities can submit the Annual Information Statement to the ACNC.

ACNC Commissioner the Hon Dr Gary Johns said reducing unnecessary regulation for charities helped to support the charity sector.

“These reforms will save charities time and money, allowing them to operate more effectively and efficiently. These reforms for fundraisers follow reforms for incorporated associations in Victoria, and we will continue to work towards minimising reporting duplication across Australia,” he added.
