The Kids Hub will provide free mental health and wellbeing services for children under 12 who experience mental health challenges.

Children in Western Australia now have access to vital early intervention and mental health support, following the opening of The Kids Hub in Midland on 31 January. Operated by Parkerville Children and Youth Care Service, The Kids Hub will provide free mental health and wellbeing services for children under 12 who are experiencing mild to moderate developmental, mental health, behavioural, or emotional challenges, along with support for their families.

A key feature of The Kids Hub is its accessibility. Children will not require a formal referral or diagnosis to receive care, removing a significant barrier for many families. The centre will offer a range of services, including access to psychologists, occupational therapists, counsellors, and support workshops, providing holistic care tailored to individual needs. This comprehensive approach aims to address the diverse challenges children may face and promote positive mental health outcomes.

The Kids Hub represents a significant step forward in children’s mental health care in WA. The service is jointly funded by the Western Australian and Australian Governments, demonstrating a shared commitment to supporting the wellbeing of young people. This collaborative funding model ensures the long-term sustainability of the Hub and its ability to provide consistent and reliable support to families in need.

The primary aim of The Kids Hub is to improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes for children. It seeks to achieve this by addressing gaps in the existing health system through the provision of accessible, child-centred services at no cost to families. This focus on accessibility is crucial, ensuring that all children, regardless of their background or circumstances, can access the support they need. By removing financial barriers and simplifying the referral process, The Kids Hub makes it easier for families to seek help early, potentially preventing more serious mental health issues from developing later in life.

The establishment of The Kids Hub in Midland is a testament to the growing recognition of the importance of early intervention in children’s mental health. By providing timely and appropriate support, the Hub aims to empower children to develop resilience, build coping skills, and thrive. It offers a crucial resource for families, providing them with the guidance and tools they need to support their children’s emotional wellbeing. The Hub’s child-centred approach ensures that services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each child, fostering a sense of safety and trust. With its team of experienced professionals, The Kids Hub is poised to make a real difference in the lives of children and families in the Midland area and beyond, contributing to a brighter future for the next generation.
