$50k grants for QLD youth innovation program

QLD youth innovation

The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) and Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation (VFFF) offer $50K in grants to improve youth lives.

The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) and Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation (VFFF) are partnering to offer $50,000 grants to young Queenslanders with bright ideas!

Backing the Future seeks innovative proposals that will enhance the lives of people aged 12-30 in remote, rural, and regional areas of Queensland. Unlike many grant programs, this one welcomes applications directly from individuals, eliminating the need for backing from a community organisation.

Investing in the Future

“We’re excited to discover and support truly transformative ideas,” says VFFF CEO Jenny Wheatley. “We’ve already funded 17 incredible changemakers, and we look forward to backing 10 more with lasting impacts.”

This program prioritises new initiatives. Projects must be in development for less than three years, acknowledging the initial funding hurdle for groundbreaking ideas, especially in remote areas.

“Backing the Future bridges this gap,” explains Ms Wheatley. “We trust communities and leaders to create positive change for young people with the right resources.”

Success Stories

Jameson Harvey, a recipient of the inaugural QLD grant, used his funding to deliver robotics workshops in remote schools, breaking down barriers to STEM education.

“Access to this technology is rare in these communities,” says Jameson. “Seeing students gain confidence in programming and design is incredibly rewarding.”

Partnership for Impact

This QLD round is the first delivered by the FRRR-VFFF partnership. VFFF’s ability to fund individuals combines with FRRR’s extensive reach, ensuring grants reach even the most remote areas. FRRR also provides successful applicants with capacity-building support.

FRRR CEO Natalie Egleton emphasises the program’s potential:

“Young people are the future of vibrant rural communities. By empowering them, we can create positive change for themselves and their communities.”

How to Apply

Anyone aged 18+ with an idea to benefit young people in remote, rural, or regional communities can apply. Applications close on March 17, 2025.

FRRR encourages potential applicants to contact their Youth Futures team to discuss their project. Information sessions will be held in the Burnett and Emerald regions, with details available on FRRR’s social media channels.

A webinar explaining the program will be held at 12:00 noon (AEST) on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Register here: https://events.humanitix.com/2025-qld-backing-the-future-grants.
