Sherridon Homes and Brilley Co have partnered with the Victorian Homeless Fund to deliver a new charity home in Moe, Gippsland, offering a life-changing opportunity for a family escaping domestic violence.
The single-storey residence, which commenced construction on 4 July, will be gifted to Women’s Property Initiatives (WPI) upon completion. Once finished, WPI will provide long-term tenancy to a family in need, creating a safe, stable and supportive environment for recovery and renewal.
Victorian Homeless Fund Chairwoman Colleen May said the home would be a vital safe haven where families can rebuild their lives.
“We all know that homelessness in Victoria, especially for women and children fleeing family violence, is at crisis levels. At the Victorian Homeless Fund, we don’t just talk about it; we act,” said May. “This home represents a chance to break the cycle of homelessness and give a family a future. Together with Sherridon Homes, Brilley Co, the Payton Foundation and our incredible network of supporters, we are not just building houses but building hope.”
The project is being delivered on behalf of the landowner, Payton Foundation Pty Ltd, with the Victorian Homeless Fund leading coordination and oversight.
With an estimated $220,000 worth of donations from the consultant, supplier and construction trades, equating to approximately 60% of the total build cost, this marks the first charity home of its kind to be delivered by Sherridon Homes and the Brilley Co team, which forms part of AHB Group, Victoria’s second-largest homebuilder.
Designed with flexibility and dignity in mind, the dual-key dwelling comprises a main home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a fully serviced one-bedroom villa under the same roofline. The villa model supports a range of living arrangements, including teenagers seeking independence, live-in support workers or ageing parents who wish to remain close to family while maintaining privacy.
In line with the needs of the family who will ultimately call the property home, special considerations have been made to maximise comfort, safety and security. These include a full alarm system, security cameras and reinforced doors throughout the property, ensuring peace of mind for residents and caseworkers alike. The home will also feature Sherridon Homes’ higher standard of quality fixtures, finishes and design and be 7-star energy efficient.
AHB Group Director Charles Agius said this project reflects the company’s values and commitment to supporting the communities in which it builds.
“At AHB Group, we believe in the power of home. This project in Moe is about more than bricks and mortar; it’s about helping families rebuild. Through Sherridon Homes and Brilley Co, we’re proud to contribute our skills and experience to a cause that aligns so closely with who we are,” said Agius.
The home is expected to be completed in early 2026. To learn more, visit the AHB Group website.
