AgriProve, a one-stop-shop for soil carbon, has joined the Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia (BCSD Australia).

A special purpose vehicle established by Corporate Carbon, AgriProve works with leading emission reduction project developers and facilitates participation in the Emission Reduction Fund (ERF).

Soil carbon sequestration projects like those managed by AgriProve not only assist in reducing its emissions, they also help farmers by increasing the productivity of their farms and the overall sustainability of the sector.

“The projects being facilitated by AgriProve are really exciting for Australian agriculture and will have a transformational role in contributing to Australia decarbonising the sector, and rebuilding Australia’s natural capital,” said Andrew Petersen, CEO of BCSD Australia.

Soil carbon projects such as these positions Australia to meet its targets under Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on land.

“AgriProve’s innovative business solution will also be an important Australian contribution to the international business leadership across the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Natural Climate Solutions and Climate Smart Agriculture programs,” Petersen said.

Managing Director of AgriProve, Matthew Warnken said, “We are delighted to be joining BCSD Australia and its network of sustainable organisations. Soils are the world’s largest terrestrial carbon sink, containing more carbon than the Earth’s vegetation and almost twice the levels in the atmosphere. But soil health is largely in decline.

“AgriProve has the potential to mainstream regenerative farming practices that restore healthy soils, build soil organic carbon and improve water management – generating income for farmers and mitigating climate change,” Warnken said.

In mid-March, Australia’s first soil carbon credits were issued under the ERF for AgriProve’s flagship project in eastern Victoria. They were also the first soil carbon credits globally to be eligible under a national target in accordance with The Paris Agreement. The AgriProve team is involved with over 90 per cent of all soil carbon projects in Australia and is focused on tripling the number of soil carbon project registrations over the next 12 months.
