Purpose-driven tea brand MOOD is urging a nation of tea lovers to drink with purpose and help prevent youth suicide, the leading cause of death for young people in this country.
MOOD tea is created by UnLtd, and backed by the Australian media, marketing and creative industry. The profits from MOOD tea fund mental health programs run by charities including batyr, Backtrack and The Sebastian Foundation.
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, half of all mental health conditions Aussies will experience in life start before the age of 14, and one in seven young people aged 14 to 17 will experience a mental health condition in any given year3.
With this in mind, MOOD tea’s four blends of tea have been crafted with mood positive ingredients to help the drinker focus, de-stress, sleep or relax with all proceeds going directly to charities working on the front line of youth mental health.
Since its launch in February 2021, MOOD has funded two batyr school programs in Warnervale, NSW. Attended by over 200 students aged 14-18 years old, the programs focused on stigma reduction, promoting help-seeking, looking after personal wellbeing and looking out for the wellbeing of friends.
The programs, which were driven by funds from the sale of MOOD across Australia, received a positive reception from students who attended. Students who were struggling and had drifted from their friends said they now planned to open up to someone for help, while students who had found the isolation from friends and family due to Covid-19 tough said they appreciated the speakers’ time to create a relatable, fun and engaging presentation.
Jenni Hayward, General Manager of MOOD said, “In the five months since MOOD launched, we have already been able to make an impact on the lives of young Australians. With anxiety, social pressures, suicidal ideation, self-harm and trauma affecting school aged children in Australia, our purpose-driven tea aims to lift the mood of a generation and start reversing the current youth suicide figures.
“Despite youth suicide claiming more young lives each year than cancer or car accidents, we found few Australians are talking about this crisis. By encouraging Aussies to take a moment for themselves each day with a delicious cup of MOOD tea, we can continue to fund important youth mental health programs and help our young generation of Aussies,” Hayward said.
