Latrobe Health Services’ health insurance benefits include lower PTSD rates, over 250K free health checks and upgrades in Gippsland’s only private hospital.

Latrobe Health Services (LHS) has released its first Total Impact Value Report demonstrating the impact of its community and member benefits package.

LHS is the founding partner of Shane Warne Legacy, which delivers heart health screening and raises community awareness of cardiovascular disease risk through the Shane Warne Legacy Health Check campaign. In 2024, Shane Warne Legacy, LHS and partners committed to delivering 400,000 free health checks to Aussies.

Additionally, LHS has funded a Healthy Hearts program, which brings free health checks to corporate workplaces in regional Australia. The program’s participants reported having a better understanding of their heart health indicators after their free test, with 13% of those screened being referred to a GP due to their heart health results.

LHS’ support of Phoenix Australia, the Australian National Centre of Excellence in Post-Traumatic Mental Health, has enabled funding for bulk-billed, no-gap telehealth assessment and short-term care for 284 eligible regional and rural Victorians. As a result, 60% of patients recovered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), 73% reported a significant improvement in PTSD symptoms and overall, 83% agreed or strongly agreed they could better self-manage their mental health.

LHS provides health insurance to 100,000 Australians, with 60% of members living in metropolitan areas and 40% in rural communities. LHS owns and supports Gippsland’s only private hospital and, according to CEO Ian Whitehead, 89% of members report satisfaction with their services, way above the industry standard of 73%.

LHS’ total impact value model draws on the International Financial Reporting Standards’ Six Capitals framework to articulate how value is created over time by leveraging key capital indicators of financial support, community relationships, intellectual capital and human impact. The framework incorporates stakeholder reflections and data collected between February and August 2024 to measure widescale and comprehensive impact across multiple indicators.

The report was commissioned to measure where LHS is delivering the most impact and benefit to members and the community.
