The Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) has named Officer Gerry Moore as the group’s new chief executive.

Moore, a Yuin man from the south coast of NSW, is currently the Managing Director of Shoalhaven Community Development, an Aboriginal community owned organisation that provides employment services and support to the Indigenous community.

He will take over from long-standing SNAICC chief Frank Hytten.

“I am thrilled to be joining such an established and well respected organisation and keen to take SNAICC to the next level in collaboration with our board and members,” Moore said. “I look forward to applying my experience in the sector and passion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights to my future work at SNAICC.”

Moore is currently a board member of the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples and previous positions include: CEO of the Aboriginal Legal Services NSW/ACT, ATSIC National Commissioner, Chairperson of the Aboriginal Housing Development Committee and CEO of the South East Aboriginal Legal Service.

SNAICC Chairperson and CEO of Aboriginal Family Support Services Inc. Sharron Williams said: “Gerry’s passion and commitment; depth of management experience; his demonstrated strategic leadership; his warm, collaborative, engaging style; the breadth of his national networks; his nuanced political experience; and his strong community grounding make him the ideal candidate for the challenge of driving SNAICC forward into the next era.”
