Outgoing CEO Les MacDonald will continue leading the organisation and ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities until 30 June.
Les MacDonald has been a driving force behind Meals on Wheels NSW’s advocacy efforts, member support and growth throughout his 23-year tenure, leading members through periods of immense change and helping shape the aged care sector’s future.
MacDonald supported members through the transition of combined state and funding via the Home and Community Care program to federal funding under the Commonwealth Home Support Program in 2015 and led a national brand refresh and trademark protection.
One key achievement during MacDonald’s tenure was the development and launch of the Community Underwriting Insurance program, which has provided vital financial security for the organisation to continue providing support to members in an increasingly complex environment. The program has now distributed over $10 million in donations to the not-for-profit sector.
MacDonald was also instrumental in establishing two influential initiatives focused on bringing the sector together to advocate with a united voice, including the Community Care Consortium in 2010 – 2016 and the more recent Support at Home Alliance. These alliances have provided a collective voice to hundreds of service providers, ensuring policymakers and government officials hear and act upon their concerns, needs, and priorities.
“It has been a true honour and privilege to work with our members and the sector over the past 23 years. Together, we have navigated challenges and celebrated triumphs, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished,“ MacDonald said, reflecting on his time at the organisation. “I am confident that the peak body is in an even stronger position for the future, and I look forward to seeing it continue to grow and support our membership base.”
“His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us as we move forward,“ Board Chair Carolyn McColl said, praising MacDonald for his vision, leadership, and dedication both to the organisation and the whole sector. “The Board of Meals on Wheels NSW would like to announce a special award/scholarship in Les’s honour and more information about this will come. A farewell event will be organised prior to Les’s retirement, and details will be shared soon.”
As the organisation embarks on a leadership transition, the Board of Directors has announced plans to begin the search for a new CEO soon.
