Link Wentworth is addressing the needs of Australians facing homelessness through two new housing developments in Sydney, in partnership with federal and state governments.
Link Wentworth, one of the country’s largest community and affordable housing providers, has announced it’s putting the finishing touches on 45 homes in Rouse Hill and Cammeray, specifically designed for those at risk of homelessness or requiring social housing.
Link Wentworth CEO Andrew McAnulty said community housing providers are well placed to move quickly to deliver real solutions for those experiencing housing stress and homelessness.
“Community housing providers are in a unique position to create more homes by accessing a mix of funding from government, the private sector, not-for-profits and charities, and reinvesting to help people access shelter and the support they need for long-term success,” McAnulty said. “We owe it to our community to provide somewhere safe to live, and beyond that, create homes where people can afford to raise their families, pursue their goals and age in place. Much more than just providing a roof over their heads, we want our tenants to be house proud and so we have prioritised good design, comfort and safety for residents in our new developments.”
McAnulty emphasised that tenants are given access to wraparound services, such as mental health support, to help them seek the support they need, thrive and break the cycle of homelessness.
Rouse Hill and Cammeray are the first of eight developments Link Wentworth has delivered through the $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF). Thanks to the federal government’s HAFF, more than 55,000 new social and affordable homes are in the pipeline. By combining HAFF with funding from state and local governments, plus investments from community housing providers like Link Wentworth, there is a unique opportunity for a layered funding approach to boost housing supply.
Link Wentworth’s Rouse Hill development is a seven-storey building featuring a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom social housing units.
“The development on White Hart Drive will provide modern, affordable and sustainable housing for 33 households and is designed to assist those on the social housing waitlist in The Hills Shire. Four of those units are easily adaptable for those living with disabilities, and the building’s location close to the metro offers great connectivity and transport options,” McAnulty explained.
Meanwhile, the Cammeray development has been built in partnership with the North Sydney Council.
“The property will comprise 12 apartments. Seven of the units are allocated to people at risk of or experiencing homelessness, five are for those on the social housing waitlist, with three of the units being accessible for those living with disability,” McAnulty said. “This new building will feature a communal living area, storage, shared laundry and outdoor space. The development is within walking distance of Cammeray town centre, with nearby public transport options and key amenities.”
