Arcadis, a consultancy firm which focuses on the design and development of natural and built assets, has added to its commitment to sustainability by joining the Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia (BCSD Australia), the organisation for business and organisations galvanising action and solutions for the transition to a sustainable Australia.

With sustainable development and environmental solutions at the core of its offering, Arcadis aims to make an important contribution to the outcomes of BCSD Australia’s fast-growing membership.

Arcadis is already a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), for which BCSD Australia is the Australian Global Network Partner. By joining BCSD Australia, Arcadis strengthens the value, impact and voice of the WBCSD Global Network by building opportunities for collaboration.

“We welcome Arcadis joining our partner BCSD Australia,” said Peter Bakker, President and CEO of WBCSD.

“I truly believe that a global network of leading companies driving change together will help transform the path to a world where more sustainable business is more successful and operates within planetary boundaries., ” said Bakker.

Bakker adds that it is crucial for sustainable businesses to act and lead on sustainability globally but also in the countries in which they operate. WBCSD looks forward to working with Arcadis in Australia, and around the world.

“It is exciting to welcome an organisation to BCSD Australia which not only understands the concept of sustainable development, but at a global level is designing and implementing projects which demonstrate that sustainability does not need to come at the cost of design or performance,” said Andrew Petersen, CEO of BCSD Australia.

“Arcadis is at the cutting edge of sustainable urban development, creating projects that meet the targets of Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Goal 12: Responsible Production and Consumption. It is also providing valuable key support for spurring on business action to establish Australia as a circular economy,” said Petersen.

Malcolm McDowall, CEO Arcadis Australia Pacific is proud to join BCSD Australia saying that creating sustainable and better places for people to live, move through and enjoy is at the core of what they do.

“Our passion is to improve quality of life, and we take that very seriously from globally committing to five of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to embedding practical sustainability measures in projects of all sizes,” McDowall said.
