Consultation dates and options announced for ACNC replacement

“The government believes it should not impose unnecessary regulatory control over the civil sector; rather, it should work with and support the sector’s ability to self- manage, allowing organisations to focus more on their work on in the community,” says the Department of Social Services.

“The repeal of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC) is consistent with the Government’s broader deregulation agenda to boost productivity by removing excessive, unnecessary and overly complex red and green tape imposed on business, community and individuals by at least $1 billion per year.”

The Department has said that an Options Paper will explain the replacement regulator arrangements and that it will provide options on how key functions will be transitioned to relevant parties.

Written submissions will be accepted until 20 August 2014.
