The charitable network has welcomed Tanya Plibersek’s appointment as Minister for Social Services and Clare O’Neil’s reappointment as Minister for Housing.

On Tanya Plibersek’s appointment as Minister for Social Services

Tanya Plibersek brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to one of the most important roles in the government.

Tanya Plibersek is one of the most experienced and respected members of the Parliament,” Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers said. “We welcome her appointment to the Social Services portfolio.”

Social services account for one in every three dollars spent by the Commonwealth and touch the lives of millions of Australians every day.

“This portfolio is at the heart of the government’s commitment not to leave anyone behind. It shapes not only how we support people in tough times and how we tackle inequality, but most importantly, how we create a fairer country,” Chambers highlighted.

According to Chambers, Plibersek brings a deep understanding of these issues and a strong track record of working to improve the lives of people doing it tough. Her appointment signals the government’s commitment to treating this portfolio with the seriousness it deserves.

“We look forward to working with Minister Plibersek to make sure that nobody is left behind — and that everyone gets the support they need to live with dignity,” Chambers noted.

On Clare O’Neil’s reappointment as Minister for Housing

Clare O’Neil’s return to the role is a chance to build on important early steps.

Housing is a vital issue for millions of Australians,” Chambers said. “That’s why we welcome Clare O’Neil’s reappointment as Minister for Housing. She has shown determination to tackle the housing crisis, and her return gives the government the chance to build on the work already underway — and take the bold action that we need.”

The government has made some important early steps, including establishing the Housing Australia Future Fund and investing in the Social Housing Accelerator. These are welcome foundations, according to Chambers, and now we have the opportunity to build on them.

Housing is central to people’s lives and a fairer Australia. We look forward to working with Minister O’Neil to make sure everyone has a place to call home,” Chambers noted.
