Shane Warne insists his beleaguered charity has “absolutely nothing to hide” after it was revealed Consumer Affairs Victoria has ordered an independent audit of The Shane Warne Foundation.
The consumer watchdog requested the audit after the foundation failed to lodge key financial documents by a deadline towards the end of 2015.
“CAV subsequently made a number of requests for the required financial information however what was provided was not sufficient,” a spokesman told Fairfax Media and News Corp Australia on Sunday.
“Because of this on 24 December 2015 the director of CAV … issued a formal request with TSWF for an independent auditor’s report on its fundraising activities for the past three-and-a-half years.”
It’s been reported Warne is considering winding up the charity following allegations of mismanagement.
Fairfax reports the ex-cricketer has cancelled a key poker tournament fundraiser scheduled for next weekend.
Warne told News Corp on Sunday a “malicious campaign” had damaged his foundation’s reputation.
“Anyone can look at our books and what we’ve done over 12 years,” he said.
“We have absolutely nothing to hide.”
