The study was undertaken to gain further insights into the contribution directors make to the economy and society through their engagement with the not-for-profit (NFP) sector.
The majority of NFP directors surveyed (79 per cent) are non-executives directors. The median non-executive director devotes between 6 and 20 hours per month, or up to 6 weeks per year.
Almost half of the directors surveyed said that a personal invitation from the chairman of the organisations had led to their involvement as a director.
