Hunt is currently the CEO of the Australian Institute of Building, based in Canberra. He has extensive healthcare industry experience, having held senior executive roles in organisations such as the Australian Medical Association (including CEO of the Australian Medical Publishing Company), Medicines Australia and the National Heart Foundation.
Praising Hunt’s appointment, Chairman of St John Professor Mark Compton AM said, “Robert’s knowledge of policy and advocacy; commercial environments; federated member-based organisations; and the complexities of healthcare systems, all give him great preparation to lead the national entity of St John.”
“I am very confident Robert’s intellect and experience, coupled with his warm and engaging personal style, will see him perform as an excellent advocate for St John externally and within our organisation,” Compton said.
Speaking of his appointment, Hunt said that, “The opportunity afforded to me by the Board of St John Ambulance Australia is a career aspiration of mine and I am deeply honoured to join the leadership team of such a well-respected and critically important health organisation.”
“St John Ambulance Australia plays an important role in the health debate and I hope to contribute to the St John voice being heard. I will execute this message with all my energy, within my remit, on behalf of St John Ambulance Australia,” he commented.
Hunt will continue to be Canberra-based at the St John national office in Deakin.
