South Australian Dignity Party MP Kelly Vincent has made an urgent plea for the state government to legislate support of medical cannabis production at a rally on the steps of Parliament House.
“In 2017, it’s to the state government’s shame that sick South Australian children and adults are having to go without the medicine they urgently need so they can live a life with some quality,” said Kelly Vincent.
“Medical cannabis is the only known treatment that works for a range of disability and health conditions including children with severe epilepsy, people with chronic pain, cancer and many other conditions.
“It’s an absolute scandal that Jenny Hallam’s house was raided and medical cannabis producing-equipment and supplies were confiscated.”
Vincent said it is a further outrage that she has been charged for supplying medical cannabis because of this state’s antiquated laws.
“Jenny has been providing medical cannabis as a community service simply because our government has done nothing to enable this effective treatment being available to our community.
“The time has come for the state government to act – it’s unconscionable that they continue to sit idly by while South Australians suffer without the medicine they need.”
