Over 24,000 Not-for-profit organisations have already started to use myGovID to access online services.
The ATO is reminding not-for-profits and businesses using the ATO’s Business Portal for the first time they will need to set up a myGovID if they don’t already have one.
Through the Business Portal they can apply for certain government assistance programs, lodge activity statements and pay super guarantee through the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH).
The ATO’s Chief Digital Officer John Dardo says the ATO is here to help those needing to set up a myGovID quickly.
“In the past week we’ve seen over 800,000 ABNs logging into ATO portals. We have also seen over 120,000 ABNs setting up their myGovID to enable them to have online access. We expect to see similar enrolments in the coming week,” he said.
If anyone needs to use the ATO Business Portal and don’t have a myGovID yet, they can just download the myGovID app and follow the steps.
Over 80% of people can set it up without any assistance.
If anyone gets stuck, ATO has instructions and videos on the web and their call centres are able to help.
myGovID is an app downloadable to a smart device to prove identity online. It uses the security features in devices such as fingerprint or face recognition and passwords to protect identity and stop others accessing private information.
After downloading the app and setting up myGovID, people will need to link myGovID to organisation using the authorisation service Relationship Authorisation Manger (RAM).
Together, myGovID and RAM provide a flexible, easy and secure way to access the ATO’s Business Portal.
“myGovID is associated with an individual rather than a computer, making it flexible and portable. This means you can continue to access the Business Portal when you’re working from home. All you need is a compatible smart device and a browser with internet access,” Dardo said.
What you need to do to set up your myGovID?
If you are the principal authority for the NFP (eligible associate listed for the ABN on the Australian Business Register) or primary person (a responsible person listed with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission for the organisation) follow the steps below:
Step 1: Get your myGovID digital identity – Download the myGovID app from the App Store or Google Play and use your Australian identity documents (two of the following; driver’s licence, Medicare card, birth certificate, passport) to enrol.
Step 2: Set up your organisation by linking your myGovID to your ABN in RAM.
Step 3 (optional): Authorise others to act online for your organisation. They will also need to get a myGovID before they can accept the invitation to act for your organisation.
It’s important that the principal authority of your organisation checks that the ABN details are correct on the Australian Business Register, before attempting to link your organisation in RAM.
If a primary person is linking the business, they will need to ensure their details are correct with the ACNC before following the instructions on the RAM website for linking a primary person. When you’ve completed these steps you’ll be able to use your myGovID to log in to the Business Portal.
