New AIIA Deputy Director

Dr Philip Dorling has been appointed as a part time Deputy Director of the Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA).

After receiving a PhD from Flinders University, Dr Dorling joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, working in the Public Affairs and International Security Divisions. He has worked in both State and Territory government, is currently a National Affairs Correspondent for the Canberra Times and a visiting Fellow at the Australian Defence Force Academy.

Dr Dorling said of his appointment “Throughout my career I have maintained a strong interest in international relations with particular expertise in relation to Australian foreign policy, trade and development, defence, intelligence and security issues.

“The Australian Institute of International Affairs is the only nationwide organisation promoting public debate on these issues.”

Formed in 1933, the AIIA has a current membership of more than 1,600 and branches in every state. The Institute publishes the Australian Journal of International Affairs and the Australia in World Affairs series.
