The National Compact between the Australian Government and the third sector aims to “work together to improve social, cultural, civic, economic and environmental outcomes, building on the strengths of individuals and communities.”
Reverend Costello, CEO of World Vision, spoke as a general representative of the Third Sector, welcoming the Compact and the opportunities that it offers for collaboration between the Government and the Third Sector.
The Prime Minister said that the National Compact recognises the diverse and substantial contribution of the Third Sector to Australia.
He said that the Compact will form new partnerships by bringing the resources and coordinating capacity of government together with the social capital of community organisations and the entrepreneurial spirit of business, to tackle Australia’s long-term challenges.
The Compact was launched on the 17th of March, and has recently gained its 150th signatory.
