Highly respected business leader Megan Motto has been appointed to the Governance Institute of Australia as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Governance Institute President, Warren Baillie, welcomed Motto and her experience to the Board. She served as CEO of Consult Australia and is currently on the Boards of Standards Australia and the Committee for Economic Development Australia (CEDA).

“Megan is well known and highly respected in the business community,” Baillie said. “Megan’s significant Chief Executive experience, her executive leadership capabilities and vision for Governance Institute will go a long way in ensuring that the Institute achieves its ambitious governance agenda.”

Baillie added: “We are confident that with Megan’s leadership, Governance Institute can successfully encourage a greater commitment to good governance across a much broader cross-section of our community.”

Motto said she was excited to be leading the organisation and to continue promoting the practice of good governance: “I am privileged to have the opportunity to lead this important organisation at a crucial point in its growth.”

“This comes at a time in Australian public affairs when there is so much focus on the importance of good governance in delivering fair and equitable outcomes for consumers and citizens across all sectors,” Motto added.

She said her primary goal as the new CEO will be in ensuring that the organisation will continue to provide value to its members and customers. She will also aim to see an enhancement in capacities as governance professionals and build on Governance Institute’s current position as a leading voice on governance in Australia.

“World-class governance practice and performance is vital for the success of our business and community organisations and for the prosperity of our society,” Motto said.

“Governance Institute plays a vital role, through its advocacy and thought leadership, in ensuring Australia has the most effective policy and regulatory framework to achieve that, as well as educating and supporting governance professionals to be the best they can be.”
