Social enterprise Good Cycles has launched its operations in Queensland, creating 30 new jobs in the sustainable transport sector through a strategic partnership with e-mobility provider Lime. The expansion brings a dual benefit: advancing green transportation while providing employment opportunities for marginalised youth across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
The initiative marks a significant shift in urban mobility solutions, following the lessons learned from Brisbane’s previous CityCycle program. Through Lime’s shared electric scooters and bikes, the project aims to tackle both environmental and social challenges facing Southeast Queensland.
At the heart of the expansion is Good Cycles’ Youth Employment Program (YEP), which focuses on creating pathways for young people aged 18-28. The program distinguishes itself through its work-first approach, combining practical employment with personalised support.
Participants will work alongside Lime’s existing team, receiving hands-on experience in e-scooter and bike mechanics while being supported by qualified coaches. This structured approach aims to build both technical expertise and transferable skills in the growing sustainable transport sector.
The expansion has been made possible through philanthropic support, including a multi-year grant from the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation. This backing has enabled Good Cycles to establish a strong foundation for its Queensland operations.
Looking ahead, Good Cycles is actively seeking new partnerships to expand its impact. The organisation is reaching out to local and state governments, social enterprises, social procurement specialists, and commercial partners to create collaborative opportunities.
The organisation is now also calling for potential partners to join them in expanding their impact across Queensland, aiming to create more ‘good cycles of change’ in communities throughout the region.
