#GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of a unique group of collaborators –not-for-profit organisations, families, businesses, government and individuals–to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Coinciding with the start of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday inspires people to take collaborative action to improve local communities by giving back in more innovative ways to the causes they support.
NFPs can rally their supporters to get involved in #GivingTuesday and provide them with a new way to give. By engaging in the global movement, you can raise your organisation’s profile, encourage others to give, or simply say ‘thanks’ to highlight the work your volunteers do.
Corporates and the government can get involved by supporting NFPs and become an official partners of #GivingTuesday in Australia. This can be done by running a morning tea, volunteering for the day, matching donations and more.
In 2013, the Polyglot Theatre raised over $20,000 for their Christmas appeal with the help of #GivingTuesday. “The appeal raised almost 50 per cent more than our target due to two factors – associating our appeal with the #GivingTuesday campaign and match-funding support from Gandel Philanthropy,” says #GivingTuesday Partner and Polyglot Theatre’s Development Manager, Rebecca Chew.
More than 300 Australian corporate and NFP organisations are already participating in this year’s event.
