Funding for homeless women remains uncertain with Coalition win

Expiring on 30 June 2013, the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH) aimed to facilitate sustainable housing and social inclusion for people who were homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Jocelyn Bignold, CEO of McAuley Community Services for Women says that she is concerned about the silence in the lead up to the election on homelessness and the general lack of understanding about the particular needs of women who are homeless.

As homelessness is experienced differently by women and men, McAuley is calling for a gendered analysis of the funding and outcomes of all homelessness programs, increased funding to develop suitable housing and support models for women who are homelessness as well as increased funding to evaluate women-specific research.
