Environmental not-for-profit Landcare Australia announced that it is partnering with 4 Pines Brewing Co. to deliver a project that will enhance sustainable agriculture outcomes in the brewer’s supply chain.
“We are delighted to be partnering with 4 Pines to design and deliver this sustainable agriculture project. 4 Pines’ commitment to the environment through 1% for the Planet and as a certified B Corp, coupled with Landcare Australia’s experience working with brands to enhance sustainability outcomes in supply chains makes this a very strong collaboration,” said James Link, Head of Landcare Australia Partnerships.
4 Pines is one of two certified B-Corp Brewers in Australia. Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and accountability to balance profit and purpose.
“Malt and hops are integral to the beer we brew; one bad season can be detrimental to growing conditions which can have a knock-on effect on our end. By supporting our growers through Landcare Australia, we will be helping to ensure that our key supply partners’ livelihood is secure, their soil is healthy and that our beer will continue to taste great,” says Chris Willcock, 4 Pines Chief Brewer.
Over the next couple of months, Landcare Australia will engage Ryefield Hops farm in southern NSW to identify their sustainability needs. Based on the outcomes of this needs analysis, in 2021, Landcare Australia will design and deliver an on-ground sustainable agriculture project that demonstrates 4 Pines’ commitment to sustainable agriculture in Australia.
This project marks the launch of a commitment 4 Pines is making to 1% for the Planet.
1% for the Planet is a global organisation that exists to ensure the planet and future generations thrive. As a member of 1% for the Planet, 4 Pines is donating 1% of its revenue from three of its beers (Pale Ale, Pacific Ale & Extra Refreshing Ale) to Landcare Australia and two other not-for-profit organisations.
“We want to leave the world better than we found it, and what better way to do that than within our own supply chain. As a community-minded brewery, collaborating with Landcare Australia was a no brainer. We are looking forward to seeing what long term impact this project has on wider communities, our suppliers and the environment,” Todd Atkinson, 4 Pines CMO, said in a media release.
