Domestic Violence NSW CEO responds to the disappearance of Luke Davies and Jesse Baird

The NSW Police provided a timeline of events surrounding the disappearance of Luke Davies and Jesse Baird. 

Delia Donovan, CEO of Domestic Violence NSW has responded to the recent tragedy saying highlight that as the details of this tragic case come to light, Domestic Violence NSW stands in solidarity with the LGBTIQA+ community.  

“We have always said – domestic violence does not discriminate. It does not discriminate based on your gender identity or sexual orientation. It does not discriminate based on where you work and what uniform you wear.”

“Preventing violence and maintaining healthy relationships is everyone’s responsibility,” added Donovan. 

According to Domestic Violence NSW, research has established the fact that intimate partner violence is as prevalent in LGBTIQA+ relationships as it is amongst the rest of the population. 

The recent Law Enforcement Conduct Commission report has also revealed investigating perpetrators within the police force is an issue that requires further attention to ensure victim-survivors are confident that police will respond to protect them. 

“This is a terrible reminder that we all have work to do,” said Donovan.  

“Domestic Violence NSW is committed to ensuring our services are safe and responsive to the unique needs of the LGBTIQA+ community.” 

Donovan highlighted that now is the time to stand united in our refusal to accept domestic violence in our community.
