Coles, SecondBite offering online donation boxes

For the first time, Coles online is helping customers get into the spirit of giving this Christmas by offering them the ability to purchase Donation Boxes full of essential items like pasta, soap and cereal, to be donated to SecondBite to help feed Australians in need.

In just 10 days, Coles online customers have shown they care and demonstrated the importance of helping others at Christmas time, with more than $10,000 already donated to provide people seeking refuge from domestic and family violence with care packages.

With 78 per cent of customers indicating that they want to give back this Christmas – either by donating food, money, goods or devoting their time to a charitable cause – Coles online is helping customers achieve this selfless wish with a simple click while completing their shop.

Customers can donate $5, $10, $25 or $50 at the checkout of their online shop to contribute to Donation Boxes to be sent to SecondBite, who will then distribute to organisations supporting families affected by domestic violence.

Coles online General Manager, Karen Donaldson said she is amazed by the generosity of customers for offering more than $1000 each day for the cause.

“Christmas is a time whencustomers are keen to give back, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for those who are shopping online to help others. Every dollar donated by our customers contributes to boxes of groceries, like cereal, Christmas pudding and soap for SecondBite to distribute to people in need,” Donaldson said.

“This is the first time Coles online has launched a Christmas donation campaign and we’re so inspired to see it resonate so strongly with our caring customers. It has even motivated our team to volunteer a few dayspacking the boxes themselves and giving their time to help others this Christmas.

“We are proud to be partnering with SecondBite, who already do so much to feed more than 2 million Australians who do not have regular access to food. Thanks to our customers, SecondBite and our Coles online team members, people seeking refuge in shelters will have access to everyday essentials and groceries this Christmas.”

Every hamper will include a minimum of $50 of groceries, which will have been packed and delivered by Coles online team members to SecondBite during the Christmas period. The Donation Boxes for people in need runs for four weeks on Coles online, finishing on 10 December 2017.
