UK’s most popular online giving platform launches in Australia

Established in the UK in 2001, JustGiving provides modern-day givers, both corporates and individuals, with a fun and easy way to support their cause through personalised, shareable fundraising pages that harness social media.

Third Sector caught up with JustGiving Australia CEO, Nikki Kinloch to chat about the launch.

TS: Why was JustGiving created?

NK: JustGiving was developed by two people who had worked in the not-for-profit sector and realised that there was a need for an easier and more modern way to give.

TS: Why did you set your sights on Australia as the next launch destination?

NK: Australians like to give – according to the World Giving Index, Aussies donate more money to charity than any other country. In 2012, over $1.9 million was donated by Australian’s via JustGiving to international charities. Australian’s are also early adopters and tech savvy when compared to other countries with one in four donations coming from a mobile device, often using social media apps such as Facebook.

TS: Can any charity apply?

NK: Yes, any charity can apply – we accept both small and large charities and individuals can nominate charities to come on board. We do require that all charities have deductable gift recipient (DGR) status.

Launching in Australia is a key milestone for JustGiving, as its global expansion will make charitable giving across the world simpler and more rewarding.
