New NFP Directory

The Connecting Up Directory: Australian Nonprofit and Charity Organisations was developed in response to the recent Productivity Commission enquiry into the Australian not-for-profit (NFP) sector, which found there was a lack of a comprehensive directory of the sector. In fact, Australia was the only developed country without such a resource.
The need for a directory of NFPs is widely recognised and supported throughout the sector.
Rev. Tim Costello AO, Chair of the Community Council for Australia and CEO of World Vision Australia says “The lack of any comprehensive directory of NFP organisations in Australia makes effective consultation, communication and planning for a better NFP (or third) sector extremely difficult. Such directories are common in other developed nations and provide a valuable resource for the third sector itself, governments, funders, philanthropists and the broader community.
We commend Connecting Up Australia for taking the initiative to develop the Connecting Up Directory: Australian NonProfit and Charity Organisations and we encourage your active involvement in providing the information needed to make it a success.”
Connecting Up received support for the directory from Google Inc. through a grant from its Charitable Giving Fund.
The Connecting Up Directory will allow the public to find NFP organisations and allow NFP organisations to communicate with each other via an online platform where NFPs can add, access and update their listing for free.
The Connecting Up Directory offers the following benefits:
- Greater visibility for listed organisations, especially via internet search engines
- Allows people to easily find and contact an organisation, including potential donors, funders and philanthropists
- Provides a strong research base for third sector planning.
