Homes for Homes opened a new grant funding round with up to $490,000 available across Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory for social and affordable housing projects.
- $100,000 will be available in Tasmania
- $100,000 will be available in the City of Casey (Victoria)
- $90,000 will be available in Western Australia
- $200,000 will be available in the Australian Capital Territory.
This is the biggest Homes for Homes grant funding round to date, and the first time funds are available in Tasmania. Social and affordable housing providers in these four locations are encouraged to apply for grant funding from 2 September to 4 October.
Homes for Homes provides a way for the entire community to help solve the issue of homelessness by raising funds for social and affordable housing through donations from properties. Owners and renters register their property with Homes for Homes, promising to donate 0.1% of their sale price or rent to increase social and affordable housing in their area.
Thanks to the support from property partners Capital Estate Developments and Balcon Group, donors, REA Group, PEXA and the Homes for Homes community, enough funds have been raised to grant to housing providers across Australia.
This funding milestone marks the eighth round of grants released to community housing projects by Homes for Homes. Previous grant rounds have seen $2.2m in funding granted to 22 social and affordable housing projects across VIC, NT, QLD, NSW, WA, SA and the ACT. These projects will provide housing for over 300 people.
Homes for Homes CEO Steven Persson said the new grant round marks a positive step towards ending homelessness in Australia.
“Homes for Homes is excited to announce an eighth grant round to help with the creation of social and affordable housing,” said Persson.
“This grant round is significant for us as it both the biggest funding round we have held and the first time we are granting funds in Tasmania.”

Homes for Homes will continue to take a flexible approach to the projects it supports. Housing providers can apply for grant funding in either one or multiple locations.
“We are open to all applications, any organisation that can create social and affordable housing is encouraged to apply,” added Persson.
Projects funded by recent Homes for Homes grant rounds include housing for women and children, young people at risk of homelessness, women experiencing marginalisation and those with an intellectual disability.
Applications will be assessed by expert, industry-based advisory groups in TAS, VIC, WA and the ACT.
The funding round opens on Monday 2 September 9 am AEST and closes on Friday 4 October at 5 pm AEST.
