Calls for Participation in Vital Survey to Improve Wellbeing for People Working and Volunteering in the Companion Pet Sector.

PetRescue, in collaboration with researchers from La Trobe University, is calling on all individuals working or volunteering within the companion animal welfare and management sector, including rescue groups, shelter workers, council animal management staff, foster carers, and vet clinics running pet adoption programs, across Australia, to participate in a crucial research survey aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of those who devote their time to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals.

The key message is clear: participation in this survey is vital for ensuring that the voices of those within the sector are heard.

The insights gained from this research will bring visibility to the challenges faced by the sector, providing an opportunity to create better well-being, improved mental health and psychologically safe outcomes for everyone involved.

“The survey does take time to fill out, but it’s one of the most important things that we need the community to rally around so that there’s a diverse representation of perspectives and experiences included,” said PetRescue Managing Director and CEO Patima Tantiprasut.

“A focus on the importance of mental health and personal wellbeing is the key to the positive future for our sector.”

This survey, conducted in partnership with researchers from La Trobe University, will inform the sector insights to be published in the 3rd Australian State of Pet Adoption Report by PetRescue.

Community input will help make the struggles within the pet adoption sector visible, enabling advocacy for necessary changes, improvements, and support systems that can improve the mental health and personal well-being of all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to give pets a second chance at life.

PetRescue urges all members within the companion animal welfare and management sector to take the time to fill out the anonymous survey and share the link with colleagues or fellow volunteers who can contribute. Your participation is crucial in shaping a healthier, more supportive environment for everyone involved in animal rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming.

Submissions close 11:59 pm AWST on Sunday, 11 August 2024.

PetRescue Managing Director and CEO Patima Tantiprasut will be speaking at this year’s Third Sector Live 2024.
