The Fred Hollows Foundation joins vaccination campaign

Professor Fred Hollows is one of several iconic Australians fronting a vaccination campaign led by Advertising Council of Australia, Premium Content Alliance and ad agency The Monkeys.
The inspiring campaign will run on Monday 27 September, encouraging the nation to get vaccinated so we can stay healthy and move back to a new normal.
The Foundation’s CEO Ian Wishart said it was a “no-brainer” to lend Fred Hollows’ image to the campaign.
“Fred was a staunch advocate of modern medicine and improving people’s living standards. We know he would have been encouraging Australians to get vaccinated,” Mr Wishart said.
“He cared not just about eye health, but also the impact of good vision on lifting the poorest people out of poverty and giving them access to opportunities like work and education.
“Conversely, Fred also believed in addressing the barriers preventing far too many people from accessing eye care when they need it – such as disadvantage and gender inequity.
“Australia has tackled some of the world’s most entrenched health and social challenges, and while medical conditions like blindness and deafness can’t be completely cured, Fred’s work has ‘beaten’ the impediments to treatment for many underprivileged people.
“As an iconic Australian and a man of science who made this country so special, we are proud to lend his image to this important campaign.”
The campaign ad will showcase clips and images of everyday Australians such as emergency services personnel who have worked tirelessly throughout one of the toughest periods the world has endured.
It will also feature other well-known personalities and doctors, including Professor Graeme Clark who pioneered the cochlear implant for severe-to-profound deafness.

The Fred Hollows Foundation is an international development organisation working towards eliminating avoidable blindness and improving Indigenous Australian health. Four years after he was diagnosed with cancer, and knowing he didn’t have much longer to live, Fred and Gabi Hollows decided they needed to find a way to continue his work. They started The Foundation with a group of friends and supporters to keep alive Fred’s dream: that everyone, no matter whether rich or poor, would have the right to high quality and affordable eye care.
