As an essential service, Bankstown Canterbury Community Transport (BCCT) continues to provide community transport services to members of the community who need to attend medical appointments and purchase groceries and other essential items in line with government recommendations.

As a result, BCCT is currently providing assisted medical transport in the local government area, with out of area medical appointments available on request. BCCT also accommodates single person shopping runs limited to a maximum of one and a half hours. Clients can also take one carer with them to medical appointments.

In line with health and safety regulations, BCCT staff will follow strict Covid-19 protocols, with clients required to scan a QR code on entry to the vehicle.

BCCT CEO Rachel Thompson is conscious of the need to provide safe community transport services to many community members who have ongoing health needs.

“We encourage elderly and vulnerable people in the community to reach out for transport to attend medical appointments, including safely transporting them to receive their Covid-19 vaccine. Shopping for essential items safely and quickly is also supported by our ability to drop clients off and pick them up in convenient locations, limiting their exposure to other forms of transport,” Thompson said.

Management and staff will continue to monitor the current situation. They may re-implement the BCCT wellbeing calling program to ensure that vulnerable and isolated community members remain connected and supported at this time.

Meanwhile, Social outings and the Reverse Library program are temporarily suspended.
