Submitted to Parliament on 28 October, the report summarises all activities undertaken by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) since its inception on 3 December, 2012 up until June 30, 2013.
According to ACNC Commissioner, Susan Pascoe findings reveal that the online component is one of the ACNC’s biggest accomplishments to date.
The ACNC Register was viewed more than 85,000 times in the few months of its launch, and there were over one million hits on www.acnc.gov.au.
“These numbers show that the public is hungry for online information about charities,” says Pascoe.
Other findings reveal that the nation’s charitable sector is growing quickly, with 700 new charities registered since the ACNC began its operations, in addition to more than 56,000 that were transferred automatically from the Australian Taxation Office when the ACNC was launched.
The ACNC will be launching a portal for registered charities to update details online in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
