Vision 2020 Australia is now the single peak body for service providers working in the blindness and low vision sector, following recent integration with the Australian Blindness Forum (ABF).

This change will provide a strong, single voice for the sector, continuing the work already underway with member organisations to strengthen opportunities for full participation of people who are blind or have low vision in the community.

Ensuring the voices and lived experience of people who are blind or have low vision are central to these efforts, at its recent meeting on 26 June, the Vision 2020 Australia Board reconfirmed its strong commitment to this principle, formally committing to increasing the participation of people who are blind or have low vision on Vision 2020 Australia’s committees, projects and other activities.

“Today is an important day for people who are blind or have low vision,” Vision 2020 Australia CEO Judith Abbott said. “The coming together of Vision 2020 Australia and the Australian Blindness Forum will create a strengthened and more effective advocate to ensure their voices are clearly heard on a range of important issues.”

“There is significant experience from both organisations that will be unified to achieve the best possible outcomes for our member organisations across the blindness and low vision sector and the people they serve,” Abbott said.
