Twitter’s ex-Director of Public Policy joins Project Rockit

Australian social enterprise Project Rockit, has announced Julie Inman-Grant, ex-Director of Public Policy, Twitter, to the board.

Project Rockit’s youth driven movement against cyberbullying, hate and prejudice, has served thousands of young Australians in schools around the country since its inception in 2006 and Julie Inman-Grant has been a long time supporter of the social enterprise.

The new appointment to the board means that the Project Rockit team can ‘take advantage of Julie’s wealth of e-safety experience’ as Director of Public Policy at Twitter.

Inman-Grant is also currently the Director of Government Relations, APAC, and has worked in several leadership roles at Microsoft.

Inman-Grant said, “I have worked in the online safety space for the 20 years in jurisdictions around the world and I can say, hand on heart, there is no other anti-bullying organisation like Project Rockit. I was struck when I met them four years ago that, as a youth-driven organisation against cyberbullying, they were fulfilling a missing gap in this space.”

“Part of what makes Project Rockit unique is the Co-Founders and Co-CEOs Rosie and Lucy Thomas. They are incredibly special human beings that use their natural ebullience, compassion and bias for problem solving to effectively connect with young people,” she said.

“They take a very pragmatic approach that doesn’t demonise either the individuals or technologies behind the bullying but helps young people maximise the benefits of technology whilst minimising the risks.

“As the organisation has grown from strength to strength, I have been amazed to watch them evolve.”

Rosie Thomas, Co-CEO at Project Rockit said, “Julie sees the real strength in not just involving young people in cyber safety conversations but empowering them to lead the way. This brings such credibility to Julie because it means that she has a genuine understanding of what it means to be a young person in an ever-changing digital world.”

Project Rockit is on Twitter’s ‘trust and safety’ council and has been honoured with the International Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cyber Safety.
