Netball Foundation to raise $250,000 for disadvantaged girls

The Netball Foundation is aiming to raise up to $250,000 in 2016 to make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged girls across Australia.

Confident Girls, believed to be the first fundraising program of its kind for sport in Australia, has been officially launched for 2016 and aims to empower women and young girls to be happy and healthy.

Confident Girls has supported more than 10,000 girls through community netball programs since founded last year.

In March 2015, Netball Australia launched the Netball Foundation, run in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, to help give young women around Australia the chance to thrive.

Netball Foundation Chair Noeleen Dix said Confident Girls aims to give more girls the chance to build confidence both on and off the court.

“Australian women know how important their social networks are; and Netball friendships are at the core of that network for many of us,” Dix said.

“Netball is in just about every community in Australia but there are some girls who can’t access it. Confident Girls aims to provide programs to take Netball to everyone.”

Australian Sports Foundation CEO Patrick Walker said he is delighted to be partnering with a campaign that can impact the lives of many.

“We look forward to helping many more disadvantaged girls enjoy the health and social benefits of playing Netball,” Walker said.

Money donated to Confident Girls goes towards funding netball programs, equipment and coaching in disadvantaged communities across Australia through Inclusion NetSetGO and community programs.
