Throughout October and November, thousands of Australians will once again walk with purpose across the nation as Walk4BrainCancer returns for 2017. Record numbers of walkers are anticipated, as more people impacted by the disease join the brain cancer movement to help improve survival and change the world for people living with the disease.
This year, that community will be fronted by X Factor Australia and Home & Away star, Johnny Ruffo, who has taken on the role of Walk4BrainCancer National Ambassador. After a shock brain cancer diagnosis in 2017, he has used his significant profile to promote the cause, bringing awareness to the disease and the lack of funding and treatment options that are so familiar to those faced with a brain cancer diagnosis.
Johnny commented “My diagnosis came as a huge shock, but I have been so overwhelmed by the love and support I’ve received since then. I want to keep doing my bit to raise awareness of this disease, and that’s why I’m proud to be an ambassador for Walk4BrainCancer this year. I’d encourage anyone who wants to do something to fight brain cancer to get out to your local walk or donate to the cause, and together, we can help find a cure.”
Johnny will share his brain cancer story in person at Walk4BrainCancer Centennial Park on 05 November. He will also be encouraging anyone who has been touched by brain cancer, whether directly or indirectly, to attend a walk or donate to the cause throughout the campaign. Walk4BrainCancer 2017 hopes to raise more than $1.5 million for Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
Michelle Stewart, CEO of Cure Brain Cancer Foundation said “Walk4BrainCancer events are always emotional, but they’re ultimately uplifting. It’s all about the passionate brain cancer community uniting in numbers across the country, talking to others who understand the journey they are going through and feeling part of a larger movement. They’re wonderful events, and I’d encourage anyone impacted by brain cancer to join us and walk against this terrible disease”.
